Jelly's Caf
Pier 50, San Francisco. (415) 495-3099. They feature a salsa band on Friday evenings starting at 9:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon (4-8 p.m. Sunday afternoon barbecue and a super-casual atmosphere. $7, Live band, DJs: Ivette Fuentes and Luis Medina (alternate weeks)

Sol Y Luna Restaurant
475 Sacramento Street, San Francisco. (415) 296-8696. Entertainment Info: (415) 296-8191. A Spanish restaurant with fine cuisine and flamenco shows. Call the entertainment number for bands on salsa nights: Thursday through Saturday. Sophisticated clientele with a classy dress style.

Bahia Cabana
1600 Market Street, San Francisco. (415) 861-4202. A salsa band on Thursday and Friday evenings. Free salsa lessons on Tuesday (DJ). They have a comfortable dance floor, but pretty small. Not a huge "salsa" place, but still, a good place for a fun night on the town.

Cafe du Nord
2170 Market Street, San Francisco. (415) 861-5016. On Tuesday there are free salsa dance lessons followed by a live salsa band. This place is a -very- crowded, and cramped, place to dance. It can be fun, but don't dress to the nines here! Believe me, you want to be comfortable . . . Floor is usually sticky from spilled drinks. Tennis shoes are fine.

Pier 23 Caf?
On Embarcadero, San Francisco (415) 362-5125. Live salsa band on Wednesday nights no cover (9:30-1 a.m.) and sometimes Thursday. Friday: 10-1, Live Band. Serving fresh seafood until 10:00 p.m., dancing on small dance floor inside and on huge outdoor patio. Dress is casual.
